Netherlandse Publieke Omroep (NPO) turned to 24i to create the viewing experience for its popular streaming video service NPO Start. Viewers enjoy a choice of AVOD and SVOD content from the Dutch public broadcaster, including live channels and a full EPG.
24i’s Big Screen SDK powers the applications on Samsung, LG, Philips and Panasonic TVs as well as HBBTV Smart TVs. The application is also available on Humax and Metrological set-top boxes.
An early iteration of the Smart Apps cross-platform codebase is used to bring the NPO Start service to users on iOS and Android mobiles and tablets as well as Apple TV, Android TV devices and web browsers.
Users can personalize their experience with watch lists, favorites and easy access to their viewing history.
To support the dual SVOD and AVOD business model, 24i integrated user management services, NPO’s choice of payment service provider, and direct ad-insertion functionality into applications for all platforms.
The apps were developed by 24i based on UI designs provided by NPO’s in-house team.
